Metiri was engaged as the Hunter Water accredited design consultant responsible for the sewer and water main upgrade works associated with the Nihon University, Newcastle Campus project. This involved upgrading approximately 200m of water mains within the road reserve and 60m of sewer mains within the development site. Design and construction of the works had to consider several difficult site constraints including existing utilities, heritage items, retaining walls, and nearby residences, commercial buildings, a pub, a school, a police station, and a hospital. A review of environmental factors (REF) was completed alongside the design which identified likely impacts the works may have had on the environment and local community and outlined measures to mitigate these. The design and REF were completed in consultation with Hunter Water, council, and the project architect, principal contractor, and other specialist consultants.
